MY STUDENTS
My classroom is home to amazing learners with cognitive disabilities. It is a multi-grade classroom representing students K-5, and most of the students receive all of their academic instruction in the self-contained setting.
MY INSTRUCTION
Students in my class work on a modified curriculum called Unique Learning System. I provide students with specialized instruction, in accordance with their IEP, in order to help them access grade-level standards. We prioritize different teaching methods such as scaffolded instruction, discrete trial training, and peer/adult modeling.
OUR COMMUNITY
Our classroom community represents many languages, countries, and family structures. We describe our classroom as a family because we strive to embrace our differences, show love and respect to one another, and help each other in our learning.
OUR FUNCTIONAL SKILLS
My class focuses on building routines for learners. We incorporate visual schedules using symbols from Symbol Stix, self-regulation strategies, and daily living skills into our daily curriculum.
